Take Back The Asshole

grr

I have to admit that I am a bit frustrated with the one-sided facade that is often adopted by some supposed “pro-woman” factions. I spent most of my college life being absolutely shunned and made to feel like crap by other women who purported to be “pro-woman”. These women had a problem with how I dressed. They had a problem with the music I listened to. They had a problem with my palm pilot. Some even had a problem with me because I choose to see men as equal.

College is not much more than a ball of painful memories for me. Most of those memories have to do with other women who subscribed to “empowerment”. High points of my college career:

1. A classmate cornered me and yelled at me for 10 minutes about how I was hurting women by dating men.

2. I had to take a senior seminar on Barbie as Cultural Icon. We spent the entire class listening to uninformed kneejerk reactions of our professor. (For example, she insisted that rocket ships were offensive to women because they were not shaped like vaginas. She also explained to us tha our Vagina was our “yoni” and we should look at it more often. WTF. Also, she insisted that this female singer called “Dildo” was offensive. She couldn’t even get Dido’s name right and knew nothing about her, but felt OK with condemning her.)

3. These women had no problem protesting violence against women, but I was shot down and humiliated for attempting to get a self defense class together at the Women’s Concerns house. It was so bad that I never returned to the premises.

It seems to me that unless you wear long skirts, wear cat eye glasses, make crafts, listen to folk and visit vintage shops, you are nothing in the eyes of this type of woman. Now, of course there is nothing wrong with any of these things or even if you enjoy all of them. What is wrong is condemning someone for deviating from this rigid shell. It is as if the false visage of an empowered woman has designed it’s own clown suit. You must wear the clown suit, or they consider you the devil. You must become a clown that stands for the opposite of the other clowns that pissed you off in the first place.

I had just had enough. I was glad to get out of college with my degree. None of this shit is empowerment. Making other people feel bad is not a good thing.

What is true empowerment? I have grown to hate the word “empowerment”, so lets just say that REAL ULTIMATE POWAR is not caring what the hell you wear. REAL ULTIMATE POWAR is not caring what other people think of you. Just buy shit that you like and make your own decisions. Stop hating shit. Life is more complicated than that. Don’t judge other people based on what your friends tell you. Get to know them first and make your own decision.

It’s easy to be an asshole. Real strength is your ability to not be a dickweasel. And besides…

Maybe it’s just the school you went to or maybe I’m just lucky. Most of the Feminist I met were very civil at least to me. Then again I’m not your stereotypical college guy either. But I get the drift of your post. It applies to just more then feminist. I think it applies to any group that wants equal treatment but they feel the best way to get that is to tear the other side down. It ain’t cool.

Oh Also you have killed my childhood with that image of optimus prime. Thanks thanks a lot.

  3. onezumi says:

Yes, there are many good people out there, but where I went…the vocal minority chased away non extremeists.

And hay, tranny optimus is sdorable! :D Hee!

Random: I hear there was actually a female transformer but I never saw her.

  4. Adler says:

Whoops, looks like my comment got b0rked. Sorry! I was trying to say that I love you and your POWAR, and nuts to anyone who bitches about it.

  5. TheWeeJenny says:

I think the female transformer only appeared in the movie (the classic animated one, not the new one naturally) though she might have been on the show, I can’t really remmeber. I actually just watched that movie recently and I was all OH HAY! THERE’S A GIRL TRANSFORMER THERE RAWK!

On a more serious note, I think this post sums up wonderfully why lots of girls don’t want to openly identify as “feminist”. The general perception is that feminists are a a bunch of man-hating douche bags, when it’s really about equality.

Fun aside: The only card-carrying feminist I ever met was my MALE literature prof in University. ^_^

  6. onezumi says:

Adler: Thank you! :D You are best evar!

TheWeeJenny: Yeah I agree! It is very complicated. I had a class about language and terms and…we just argued for about 2 hours each day. That was worst class evar.

  7. Bex says:

That Optimus Prime image just about killed me :B

Also, according to some of the “feminists” I seem to be hearing, I’m undoing all of their hard work simply but having male friends. Um, wha?

  8. [...] I couldn’t get Tranny Optimus Prime this time. Instead this guy agrees with [...]

  9. Nekonezume says:

See, it’s shit like that that actually makes people think feminists are all crazy when really, the majority of us just want equality across the board.

    I can’t stand extremism. >_

  10. TheWeeJenny says:

    @Nekonezume

    Amen sister. ^_^

  11. onezumi says:

Yah, I think it’s the vocal minority. Most women I know like men just fine and are great people to be around, plus quite motivated career-wise, etc. :D
