SAW 7 is SAW 3D

The SAW 7 SAW 3D trailer was released at Comicon this past weekend. It is confirmed that despite talks of SAW 8, 7 will be the final film for this franchise. I am a huge fan of these films, but I do have to admit that after SAW 3, it seemed like they were reaching a bit far to make things fit into the continuity. There isn’t an easy way to keep things going after the end of that film. Just the same, I am a little sad to see it go.

I have to say – what is the deal with everything being in 3D these days? Am I the only one absolutely turned off by the concept? I thought movies were fine before 3D. In fact, my favorite films are in 2D. I can’t imagine Indiana Jones, Big Trouble in Little China, or Escape from NY being any better in 3D. Maybe I am just a crankypants.

Regardless of pants that are cranky, here is the trailer for SAW 3D:

  1. I was a fairly big fan of Saw up until after Saw 3 as well. I really felt that it should have just ended there and I haven’t seen 4-6 at all. I think I kind of want to just let it rest in my own brain.

The current popularity of using 3D in modern films seems just like a gimmick to me and I’m not a huge fan. I saw Avatar in 3D and it was good but I would have been just as happy had it not been. Both Kate, my wife, and I are generally turned off by the films that are currently in 3D since the effect is usually just tacked on in post production.

Now we’re starting to get 3D TVs coming out. I’m hoping that it’s all just a fad that will eventually go away but I guess we’ll just have to see what happens over the next 5 years or so. Maybe I’m just old and grumpy but I’m happy with seeing movies in 2D.
