Almost Completely Defeated

I just spent 20 minutes in my car crying. My car (2007 Chevy Cobalt) is only 2 years old, but it’s already out of warranty. I saved up as much as I could to get the cheapest car I could find and put it all into getting this because I need it to get to work. I got rear-ended last week. Insurance will help me with most of that. The fundraiser I had will barely cover the things the insurance refused to cover. (Medication was stuck in the trunk and we had to pry it open to get to it. the insurance said it was fine but later changed their mind. Not a big deal. I really don’t care how the car looks.) I thought I was OK.

My power steering just failed on my drive home from work, almost causing me to crash into a mack truck. I can turn the car off and on and it will fix the problem, but the power steering keeps crashing out after about 5 minutes of driving nearly propelling me off the road. I need the car to get to my job, which is 1.5 hours away with no public transportation options. I’m scared I’m going to be fired because I was out all last week for the accident. A quick google search tells me that this power steering issue is a known issue with no solution or recall other than to replace the system for about $1500.

I called GM. They refused to look at it unless I give them $200 and tell me that I am out of warranty. I can’t even speak right now. I just keep breaking up into tears. I have no idea what I’m going to do, GM doesn’t care. IT WAS REALLY SCARY I ALMOST DIED BECAUSE I COULDN’T TURN MY WHEEL. WHO MAKES A CAR THAT DIES IN 2 YEARS?!?!??!?! AAARGH. I thought I made the best decision I could and wouldn’t have to buy another car for a while and that I could have enough savings by then. The dealer also claims that this has nothing to do with the accident.

I’m having a day where I feel like I just want to not be alive. I work 7 days a week. I work 11-16 hours a day. I just am frustrated. It goes without saying that I am going to be canceling any vacation plans and cutting back on groceries.

I feel lucky that it happened after I got back from my best friend’s wedding and not on the road.

I hate this. But if you could spread the word about the fundraiser or buy from my store I could really use the help. I feel like I’ve been just totally crushed.
