Oh hey, I’ll bet you’ve noticed a lot of posts for haunted attractions popping up on the blog. There is a reason for that. We are doing 1, 2, or sometimes 3 haunts a night and it’s best for us to get these out before the season ends. The only thing that being invited to review an attraction affects is how fast we prioritize the posting of the review. Happily, many of these haunts have invited us to come and review them, so we have been busier than ever! :)
It’s awesome but also tiring. Harknell and I are both exhausted. Many of these haunts are an hour or 6 away from us, so we are doing this all in between our day jobs. We love it, but I have to confess that I am a little happy that there are no haunts open tonight so we can get more than 5 hours of sleep. I hope to make some home cooked food, carve a pumpkin, and show Harknell the film Trick R’ Treat for the first time.

The main reason I’m happy there are no haunts tonight is because I hurt myself last night.
I started a new day job several days ago. This one requires fancy business casual. Most jobs these days in IT don’t care much of what you wear, so I normally have gone to work in jeans. For most people business casual is not a problem, but when you have feet that have been reconstructed twice that are still not holding themselves together, you get issues with the shoes required by business casual.
Sure, I could wear some granny clompers in, but that would be humiliating plus make me look like I don’t know my head from my ass. You may not think clothing matters, but how you are perceived does matter when your career is concerned.
I’ve tried every manner of flats out there and spent thousands on shoes to no avail. I require something that laces up to stabilize my bones, which is why I have always been a fan of combat boots. I can’t wear those to this job, though.
To make a long story short, I wore flats for 6 days which aggravated my achilles tendon. I came home, switched to boots, and while I was leaving last night for The Bates Motel my tendon felt like it was being ripped out of my bone and I almost fell down the steps. I didn’t let that deter me, popped some aspirin and did the haunt anyway with a limp.
HARDCORE. HAUNTED ATTRACTIONS = SRS BZNZZ.
I am glad that I had some old Adidas sneaks in the trunk of my car that I was able to switch to. After getting home it totally went out and I actually hit the floor and started crying. My workaround thus far is to switch to dresses to work with which I can wear boots and look presentable while bracing me. Which means I need to buy more shoes because I only have boots in brown and need a pair in black. Argh.
I hope your week is going better than mine. On the bright side, I soon will be at Night of Terror (NJ), Scarehouse (PA), Hundred Acre Manor (PA), and The Haunted Schoolhouse and Lab (OH) this week plus one more TBD probably in Eastern PA or NJ if we can find one.
I need to shout out after the season is done to all of these folks. Nearly all of the haunts we did this year invited us to come and review them, which helped us be able to afford to do the haunt tour this year even when I lost my job. In past years we paid for all of those haunts. Next year we will be seeking sponsorship for the haunt tour, so if anyone out there reading wants a piece of that, please email me from the top nav bar. I’ll have sponsorship data and what we can do for you written up later.
Also if anyone wants to Summon an Oni so we come and review you, contact me ASAP. If by chance we can fit you in, we’ll do that. If not, we’ll put you first for 2013.
