NSFW: Female Superheroes as Vaginas

The below post is highly NSFW due to the fact that the pictures include paintings of vaginas.

The big comic labels wonder why they appear to be having trouble gaining and keeping female readers. My own eyes have shown me that most of the new indie artists at conventions are female. In fact, every year my own convention usually has a guest speaker list of at least 50% women – and I am not even trying to be diverse. I was just trying to find great people and absolutely ignored their genders and other identifying factors.

There just are THAT many women in comics.

Yet for example DC has complained that they can’t find any women to hire and (to my knowledge) have done little or nothing to change this other than bluster.

The fucking fact that this is even an issue in 2012 speaks volumes.

I remember my sister telling me back in 1990 or so, “DC is really sexist. All they do is have their women get raped or crippled.” My first exposure to rape and beating was actually in the pages of Green Arrow. I remember reading it over and over again because my brain couldn’t possibly process the absurdity. I was looking to these books for a hero of my own and all I saw was a heap of flesh that functioned as a plot device for Green Arrow himself.

A lot of these guys talk this shit back and forth. Frankly, I’m not one to discuss things. I’m more straightforward than that. A lot of their artists have said that they use porn and other things as photo references for the female heroes. That probably explains why they look like they are constantly writhing on a penis. I’ve gone ahead and helped them out with a more accurate literal interpretation of their heroes.

At least *I’m* honest:

    Funny, and insightful! You’re awesome!

Thank you! I think I am going to do more – including some transgendered ones with moustache. It is dapper, after all. :D

Regarding artists using porn for models:

Hey, porn is free. Figure models aren’t. :(

  4. Holy FRAK… disturbing … yet so awesome.

And seriously, DC has had their heads up their corporate asses for a LONG time now. Isn’t it interesting that for the films, the studios always go back to the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s versions for DC heros. The modern stuff is so awful.. I can’t remember the last time I paid for any DC title.’

Carry on! Poke ‘em in the eye with a stick!

Yeah we were just talking about how the money comes from the films – all of old properties redone. Except Wonder Woman. She can’t have one.

Although that problem is twofold. Half that the studio won’t support it and (I believe) half that the average idiot (male and female) wouldn’t go to see it because it doesn’t match up to general bullshit enough.

Even is a WW film got through the gauntlet that is Hollywood in decent shape, I am not convinced most people care about seeing strong women. Maybe my cynicism is showing.

Also Lynda Carter is still awesome.

*ahahahhahaa* Yeah, pretty much. Great job. I’d ask for a brown template vadge, but that would require characters of color that don’t get killed off, turned evil, or just hustled off the page at ludicrous speed.

    - A brown, vadge-enhance fan of DC characters, but not so much of the company.

      Hello, fellow brown person! :D

I thought of it but came to the same conclusion!

      Thanks for the comment! :D

Oh wow. It was interesting to wake up to this.

DC has scraped out everything that made its female characters good and interesting. Stumbling across some of the worst of it has the same feeling as opening a door in someone else’s house and having their blow up doll fall on you.

I think that DC is making itself irrelevant with this kind of content. In 10-20 years all their current fans will be dying off. They’ve built this rep for being porny so kids aren’t picking up their books any more. They will be around for a long time because they are owned by a big company. But I don’t think they can be part of the mass culture without making big changes.

“The best part of waking up! Is Oni in your cup!”

Agree. The biggest issue I have is that the “big” properties were all created in the 40′s/50s. So they keep making 50 billion Batman movies.

That is not to say Batman isn’t awesome. It is. But it’s only 1 thing.

Excellent work. For heightened authenticity you’ll have to find a way to get the clitoris and anus in the same picture. At times like this I ask myself: what would Picasso do?

Haha, gotta love vaginas in all their many forms. Especially the super heroes. Such a shame DC doesn’t seem to understand women as characters instead of plot devices. I’ve been especially heartbroken by what they keep doing to Catwoman, a character I was obsessed with as a kid. Only thing us girls can do is make our own comics, it would seem.

    • onezumi says:

I used to love the Jo Duffy era Catwoman. Then she was done and the new writer promptly made her a wuss. It was sad.
