i-love-netflix
 I love Netflix

I was reticent to get Netflix at first, but now all of my media comes from the internet. I canceled cable a while ago because I was so tired of complaining that nothing was on TV. In the USA you can’t choose your cable provider, so you have to pay whatever they want and you don’t get to choose what channels you get. I didn’t even have the option to get see Doctor Who because my provider didn’t have BBC America. I predict that in a few years many people are going to ditch cable for video on the internet. It’s just a no-brainer – I’ll pay for service, but if your service sucks then the hell with that. Actually, I have been saying this would happen for many years now.

Anyway, I thought I’d share some things I’ve been enjoying recently. All of them are streaming on Netflix:

Thumbs Up: This is a crazy documentary series about 2 guys who hitchhike all over the continent and interview random people. At some point there’s a naked lady wearing an optimus prime mask cutting someone’s hair on a balcony. There is all sorts of hijinks. It reminds me of some of my friends’ craziness from back in the day.

Fat Head: Think that you should eat low fat food to lose weight? Think fast food is evil? This brilliant documentary debunks the myths our government and media has been marketing to us for their profit.

The Business of Being Born: This documentary talks about the possibly dangerous way that women are made to give birth in the USA. Considering how pro life a lot of people purport to be in this country…this documentary was very shocking to me. Be warned – there are a lot of childbirth scenes in this film.

Weeds: This series is about a rich housewife who loses her husband and takes up selling pot. Eventually she gets tangled up in organized crime. The first 3 seasons are great. After that…not so much It is still a great series. If you like Arrested Development, Dexter, True Blood, and that tier of TV series you will love this. Showtime really must not care about promoting on blogs, though. Couldn’t find any good embeds for you.

The September Issue: This is a documentary about Anna Wintour and the staff of Vogue Magazine. Billed as “The real Devil Wears Prada”, it shows the behind the scenes of the making of their biggest issue of the year. I enjoyed seeing another successful woman and how she gets things done.

Morey’s Piers’ “Ghost Ship” Becomes More Immersive for 2011

When I reviewed Ghost Ship last Summer, I had some honest criticism of the attraction. My review ended off with, “What hurts me the most is that small changes could quickly make this attraction an amazing must-see.”

Well holy crap they must have been listening. I just received the following press release from Morey’s. I am really, REALLY excited about this. I firmly believe that immersive attractions are what makes a run of the mill park into a stand out park worth traveling across states to see. It seems that they are in sync with my train of thought about upgrading Ghost Ship. If this is indeed the case, OH MY GOD.

Morey’s certainly is paying attention. This means that all of you haunt fans out there should probably support this as much as possible. I hope that this is an amazing success and proves to all of the other parks who leave their dark rides rot in the corner that this IS the way to go. Metal coasters are great, but this is where the soul is.

I’ll definitely be investigating Ghost Ship this Summer.

Check it:

The Wildwoods, NJ – April 29, 2011 – Last year, the world was made aware of Morey’s Piers’ newest attraction, the Ghost Ship. As the end result of a “Philadelphia Experiment” gone terribly wrong, the Ghost Ship took the Jersey Shore by storm, entertaining and terrifying hundreds of thousands of guests and gaining recognition as ‘Best New Theme Park Attraction for 2010’ in About.com Reader’s Choice Awards.

The Ghost Ship gave the Wildwoods boardwalk back the kind of high intensity scare attraction that had been missing for nearly a generation. Thrilled as Jack and Will Morey were with the first year success of the attraction, they have never been ones to rest on their laurels.

As such, Morey’s Piers is pleased to announce that Ghost Ship 2011 will offer an almost completely new scare show, as well as a number of physical changes to the ride’s interior maze itself that will more fully immerse guests into the horrifying experience.

“Ghost Ship was a great attraction last year, no doubt. It would have been easy to come back with the same show in 2011. But I was not surprised when Will and Jack sent me to various parks in the US and across the pond in Europe to research how we can make it even better. That’s just how they operate. Good enough is never good enough,” said Ghost Ship manager Terry O’Brien.

Many of the cages and fences that separated guests from hungry zombies have been stripped down, leaving guests face to mangled face with the creatures of the Ghost Ship. A couple new surprises are meant to immerse, impress and impart a deeper sense of gloom on the adventurous as they wind their way through the derelict vessel.

In addition to the many new rooms, acting and lighting changes, the Ghost Ship will also feature an all-new costume and make-up scheme, designed by industry professionals.

medieval-times-nyc-waiting-for-spring
Medieval Times; NYC; waiting for Spring

Oh my god you guys. I have been so busy lately. Between making my comics, organizing my comics and indie creator convention, editing my upcoming books, and preparing for my impending vacation…yikes. I took one day today to be like a real person. What I mean by that is that I actually ate brunch and watched some films with friends. I rarely do that. I usually am always at work, working at home, or running errands. Here are some pictures from my not work adventures in the past few months.

I saw these weird things in NYC:

My friends took me to Medieval Times for my birthday. Unfortunately, I got sick after this. (Not from the food – just a sore throat and fever.)

We are outside because I realized we forgot to take pictures inside. No, we weren’t going to our cars with booze. The cups are empty. :D

Harknell had a big Knight Head mug guy face thingy:

My view from my seat. Ooo horseys!

BOOZE! BOOZE! BOOZE! They had all kinds of alcoholic slushies. I had a margarita. :D

I do recommend Medieval Times. It is a theme restaurant where you eat while they perform a silly jousting show with a storyline. I was skeptical, but I found it to be fun and the food was actually not bad. You get tomato soup, chicken, potatoes, an apple pastry, and a drink. The booze was pretty good. I think a collectors cup was about $14 and regular drinks were $8 or $10. You might think that is pricey, but for the New York/New Jersey area that is right about normal.

If you go, be sure to get a buy one get one free coupon. I don’t think it is worth the full price of $60, but it is definitely pretty cool for the half price if you are looking for something different.

Anyway, that’s what I’ve been doing lately…minus all of the details about my ridiculous work schedule of usually 16+ hour days. How have you all been?
