LOTR-style Film about the Beechview Branch of the Carnegie Library in Pittsburgh

Haha! My first job ever was a volunteer at the Beechview Library. Eventually when I was old enough, it became my first job.

Unfortunately it recently was almost shut down. A year-long community protest luckily convinced them to delay closure for another year.

This neighborhood is already very poor – the only thing left in it is the library. It is a critical part of people’s lives, especially the children’s lives. Some of the kids who go there today made a LOTR parody film about a quest to destroy the scroll that can destroy the library:

Take notice, politicians. These kids are not on the street or doing anything bad because they have a fun place to go. Targeting the poorest areas to cut funding for our libraries is a bad deal. Libraries give people the tools to be creative and successful!
